As I begin this month, there are many things that are changing in my life. I recently found out I will have to change my living situation and my health insurance in the very near future. I also found out that my incredible army major boyfriend is going to be moving a few states away for the next year. Oh, did I mention I found out about all of this in the course of one overwhelming evening? That evening happened to be the evening before I got my wisdom teeth removed. Enough venting, let's talk doing my part to save the world! I am ready to rise to the challenges I am presented with and make a plan that will involve doing my very best and living as Eco-friendly as possible.
All that being said, I want to make these upcoming changes an opportunity to live a bit greener. This month I think the best way for me to do that individually would be to try to change my habits for the better. The best way to change a habit is to identify them; which leads me to this month's challenge.
For one week I will keep a general log to keep track of my trash. The next week and for the remainder of that month I will make a conscious effort to decrease the amount of waste I am adding to the environment.
I plan on dividing the waste into four categories:
1. Recyclables: I would like to lessen the amount of recyclables I am putting into the world. The more I read the more I realize that recyclables are often not recycled once they leave the world. Recycling is better than a putting things directly into a landfill, but less is still preferred.
2. Solid Non-recyclables
3. Organic Waste: Essentially food waste (I regularly fail to eat my fruits and veggies before they go bad so I know that is something I can improve upon).
